Problem: UX, UI, Developers and QA were all spending a significant amount of time designing, implementing and testing screens and components for each app release. This pushed out project schedules, was difficult to maintain, and was a source of frustration amongst team members.
Solution: Working with the teams listed above, I began the Wemo app design system. It contains reusable screen patterns, UI components, and style guidelines.
Implementation:
Gather existing app screens and components.
Identify what we want to make reusable, and what will need to be updated.
Place the design system in an easily accessible and shareable location. Making sure cross-functional teams know of and can access it.
Require that anything we design from now on either work within the design system or add to it (where needed).
Results: Designing, implementing, and testing new features took significantly less time. We were able to produce new work more quickly.
Since the creation of our design system, 90% of UX and UI work used elements from that system.
